Beginning in 2006, reports from beekeepers showed that bees were in a major decline. This problem started around 1990 but was not noticed until many years later. It started to worsen, and around 2006 it became a major problem worldwide. Bee decline is a recent problem, due to the new pesticides being created, and new housing developments being built. Beekeepers chose to look deeper into the topic because they were seeing a fast pace loss in a number of worker bees. There was a small quantity of bees found dead near the colony. This helped scientists discover Colony Collapse Disorder by showing them that the bees were leaving their hives before perishing. Colony Collapse Disorder is an occurrence that happens when most of the worker bees from a colony vanish, abandoning the many young bees and the queen to fend for themselves. The hives can not survive without their worker bees. If all of the worker bees leave, the bees that did not vacate the hive will dwindle. Colony Collapse Disorder has been a big contributor to the history of bee decline.
