Bee decline relates to population and progress in multiple ways. Due to bee decline, our world's population is being affected. Progress, specifically in technology fields is being changed by bee decline and is affecting it.

Today, population worldwide is growing rapidly. The annual growth rate of our world's population is currently about 1.13%. Since our population is growing, we will need more food to sustain our population. Without bees, our population won't have enough food. Bees pollinate 1/3 of our food, so we need bees to feed our large population. Also, as our population grows, we will have to spread into rural areas, taking away open land. This can affect bees in many ways. First, the development of housing and businesses in rural areas takes away a bee's habitat. This is one of the major causes of bee decline today, and will become even worse as our population grows even more. More and more land is being developed around the world every year. To sustain this large number of people, we will need more housing. Thus using up the rural areas or other areas of open land that are habitats to many types of animals including bees. As our population continues to expand habitat loss will continue to be a huge problem. The production of pesticides is also affecting bee decline. Pesticide production is a growing industry that is very helpful because it increases food production, which is needed to feed the billions of people worldwide. Although these pesticides are helpful they are also harmful to many of the pollinators. These pesticides affect the pollinators' brains causing them to learn things at a much slower pace. Through the use of pesticides, pollinators can also lose their sense of smell. They are not able to distinguish scents, specifically floral ones. This can lead to other problems such as a bee pollinating something that should not be because it can't smell.

Progress, especially in technology can both help solve bee decline and worsen it. As technology progresses, more factories are needed to produce new technology or other goods that are needed worldwide. The need for more factories is causing pollution to both build the factories and make the goods that we need from them. Factories help to produce most of the items that are used by people today. These factories create a large amount of air pollution. Pollution can be very harmful to bee colonies resulting in Colony Collapse Disorder. Progress can also help bee decline in our world today. The technology being created can be used for bee decline research and to help track the bees. With this new technology, bees can be observed more closely so that scientists and researchers can help to find a solution to this major problem affecting our world today.
